It is unarguable that tea is one of the nation’s favourite drinks, but the world of tea far outreaches the realms of a strong British builders or perfectly brewed Earl Grey.
In recent years, we have seen a resurgence in drinking herbal teas for their medicinal and restorative benefits. We spoke to Bristol-based Pukka Herbs about the wonders of herbal blends…
“More and more people are waking up to the power of plants and how they can benefit our health. A popular way of integrating these health-boosting natural ingredients into your diet is through a delicious cup of herbal tea – an age-old tonic that is steadily on the rise.
There are some key areas of health and wellbeing that can often pose a challenge to us in day-to-day life, and herbal remedies can help.
Shake-up your wake-up…
If you have difficulty waking up or getting out of bed in the morning, or if you’re someone who suffers from that mid-day slump, then a herbal tea containing matcha (an antioxidant-rich, powdered form of green tea) can provide a lasting natural energy boost.
When blended with other energy boosting ingredients, such as ginseng, your herbal blend can give you sustained, calm alertness without the jitters you might expect from coffee.
Brain boost…
When working long hours, it’s difficult to maintain mental clarity and focus. Luckily, the golden super spice turmeric can boost circulation to the brain as well as helping to protect the brain from harmful free radicals thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Sleep tight…
We like to create a turmeric blend that includes turmeric, ginger, galangal and nettle. The result is a warm, spicy and invigorating blend with sweet hints of orange. At some point, all of us suffer from a bout of poor sleep and when we are not sleeping well, the next day can be a bit of a struggle. Together with the right sleeping environment and some simple lifestyle changes, natural plants and herbs can be fantastic for helping us get a good night’s sleep.
Keep calm…
Camomile is everyone’s favourite night-time herb. It also helps to calm and soothe the digestive system. Lesser known herbs such as valerian have sedative properties and can help with not only getting to sleep but ensuring a good quality sleep. Other herbs such as ashwagandha also have natural calming effects and can be particularly helpful when stress or anxiety are interfering with our sleep. Camomile, valerian and ashwagandha can all help calm a busy mind, supporting a restful night’s sleep.”
